Emergency GMC registration for pandemic response to end in September

  • Date: 27 April 2022

THE GMC has announced that temporary emergency registration given to doctors as part of the pandemic response will close on 30 September 2022.

The decision by the UK Government was announced in March 2022 by the minister for health, Edward Argar.

The regulator will be contacting those affected to explain that they can retain their temporary emergency registration until September, ask to have it removed sooner, or apply to restore their routine registration and licence to practise.

Doctors who still hold temporary emergency registration are being given as much time as possible to consider their options, and this will also ensure that responsible officers and healthcare providers are able to plan for service delivery.

The GMC statement concludes: “We’re very grateful to everyone who’s supported the response to the pandemic in these challenging times.”
