For immediate release: Monday 6 April 2020
Medical defence organisation MDDUS is waiving membership fees for students starting their Foundation Year 1 post early.
As universities in the UK bring forward the graduation of students from its medical schools, to enable them to assist the Covid-19 response, MDDUS is acting to remove a financial barrier to this happening.
MDDUS F1 doctors will now be able to add 'Coronavirus support' to their membership, free-of-charge, providing them with a range of support to supplement their state indemnity, including;
• Advice and support from leading medico-legal experts 24/7
• Legal representation from solicitors who are recognised as the UK's leading experts in the medico-legal field
• Help in dealing with complaints
• Assistance with disciplinary matters
• Legal representation and support at Fatal Accident Inquiries/Coroners Inquests
Chris Kenny, Chief Executive of MDDUS, said: “Medical students who respond to the national call for help in the fight against Covid-19 are stepping into the frontline in health care before they would have thought it possible.
“As one of the UK’s leading medical defence organisations, we want to play our part in supporting those who do so.
“We’ll provide them with access to advice, support and representation for free and relevant online guidance via the Coronavirus hub on our website.
“Recent graduates who contribute to the Covid-19 response will be indemnified by the state for any related claims. MDDUS membership will give them peace of mind they have experts in their corner if they face a complaint or should they require advice or guidance.”
Those commencing their F1 post early should advise MDDUS by emailing email@example.com
