MDDUS courses on GDPR and confidentiality

Course title: GDPR - one year on

Course description: This interactive full day workshop will focus on how the new GDPR and Data protection Act 2018 is ‘bedding in’ one year on. As well as exploring practical application issues the workshop will focus on key areas such as understanding your personal information through data mapping, and undertaking a data impact assessment to understand your risks. There will also be an opportunity to reflect on how specific arrangements for managing subject access requests and identifying and reporting data security breaches are working in practice. It is open to both MDDUS members and non-members.

Audience: The workshop is aimed at both data controllers and indeed anyone who has a management responsibility for the processing of personal data, and is suitable for both medical and dental environment.

Course title: GDPR in Practice

Course description: This interactive half-day workshop is aimed primarily at administration and reception staff working in both medical and dental environments. GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 provide a legal framework for the safe and fair processing of personal information, and the workshop will provide an overview of the statutory responsibilities placed in data controllers and vicariously the data processors working for them. The main focus however will be on how these overarching principles translate on a practical level to the day-to-day workings in a busy medical or dental practice, and how data protection must become embedded in the normal activities of all organisations, particularly in the areas of data security and confidentiality breaches. It is open to both MDDUS members and non-members.

Course title: Confidentiality in Practice

Course description: This interactive full day course is aimed primarily at medical and practice admin and reception teams, and will focus on key areas of maintaining patient confidentiality in a busy practice setting. The introduction of GDPR has heightened awareness and responsibilities for all data controllers and processors, and in most situations there is a direct impact on the professional and ethical duty to protect patient confidentiality. The workshop will focus on key areas such as: common law principles, disclosures that are in public interest, dealing with requests for personal information from bodies such as the police, schools, government bodies and health and social care services, and also approaches by the families of deceased patients. The workshop will also consider practical solutions to preventing confidentiality breaches within the work environment itself. It is open to both MDDUS member and non-member practices.
