Extended cover for practice staff in England and Wales

MDDUS is introducing new products extending indemnity, legal support and advice/assistance to non-GP practice staff in England and Wales for activities and risks not covered under new state-backed schemes.

These products are designed to provide practices with reassurance that all of their non-GP staff are properly protected and are able to seek advice and support for the work that they undertake. The products are available to existing and new MDDUS practices.

Under our new Primary Care Team Professional Advice Protection plan all non-GP members on the practice team (including practice nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, paramedics, HCAs, phelbotomists and administrative staff) will enjoy access to expert advice and support with complaints in respect of clinical practice indemnified by state-backed schemes in England and Wales (CNSGP, GMPI). In England this will include NHS primary medical services delivered on behalf of the Primary Care Network.

The product will also provide regulated non-GP members of the team with access to indemnity for additional non-NHS work (not covered under the state-backed schemes) undertaken on behalf of the practice with registered patients. This includes travel clinics, medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.), life insurance reports and medicals, insurance claim forms, private sick notes and more.

The Primary Care Team Professional Advice Protection plan will be provided free to practices where all GP partners are MDDUS members. In practices where all GP partners are not in MDDUS membership there will be an annual charge of £50 per regulated team member. Non-regulated staff (HCAs, phlebotomists, etc) will be covered free of charge.

More cover for regulated non-GP staff

MDDUS is also offering an essential extension to the above plan for individual regulated non-GP staff. Primary Care Team Regulatory Protection will provide access to assistance and legal support in regulatory matters, including fitness to practise investigations, for staff registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Pharmaceutical Council or Health Care Professions Council. Non-GP clinicians will submit an individual application to become MDDUS Associate members. Subscription rates will be £150 per person and will be in addition to any charge for Primary Care Team Professional Advice Protection – which is required before the regulatory protection can be offered.

More details on these new products and how to apply is available on the MDDUS website.
