MDDUS comments on historic apology from GMC

MDDUS welcomes the General Medical Council's (GMC) apology for its historical regulatory actions against doctors because they had cautions or convictions based on their sexuality. This apology is an important step in addressing past injustices.

We stand in solidarity with all doctors affected by these historical actions. This moment is a stark reminder of the challenges that LGBTQ+ doctors have faced and can continue to face.

It is right that the GMC have not only acknowledged these wrongs but have also committed to continuing improvements in their fitness to practise processes. As we move forward, MDDUS is committed to supporting our members and advocating for a healthcare system where diversity is valued and discrimination is a relic of the past.
