MDDUS comments on General Dental Council consultation

The General Dental Council (GDC) has published its consultation today (Tuesday, 05 July) on its strategic plans for the next three years. It sets out how the organisation will manage public protection at a time of considerable uncertainty for dentistry and the UK.

Commenting on this, Chris Kenny at MDDUS said: "Dentists in the UK are under significant pressure as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact the profession.

"We welcome the GDC's commitment to continue to move from enforcement to prevention. Our dentists and their teams are dedicated, highly skilled professionals, and it is vital they receive the support they need to deliver a high standard of care to their patients.

"We agree that the current regulation of healthcare is outdated and in need of reform. We continue to call on the UK Government to act swiftly to ensure the regulatory framework is fit for purpose and fairer for clinicians and patients alike."
