MDDUS welcomes introduction of damages bill in the Scottish parliament

PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release: Friday, 15 June 2018

MDDUS welcomes the introduction of the Damages Bill in the Scottish parliament to ensure a fairer and more transparent way of setting the discount rate in future.

MDDUS senior lawyer and practice development manager Joanna Jervis said:

“MDDUS welcomes the introduction of this long-awaited bill and the drivers behind the need to have the bill in place.

“We have been at the forefront of the discount rate debate to put some rationality and hard evidence into the system and it is imperative that a new rate is set as soon as possible that is fair to claimants and defendants alike and gives the market greater certainty.

“We are analysing the terms of the bill very carefully and will continue to make representations at Holyrood, as we have been doing at Westminster, to ensure the interests of doctors and patients alike.”
