Confidentiality for hospital doctors

Taking place on Tuesday, 9 May between 9.30am and 12pm, this 2.5 hour course will explore what is expected of doctors in relation to confidentiality

This 2.5 hour course will explore what is expected of doctors in relation to confidentiality and highlight the common and emerging risks.

In particular, topics to be explored include:

  • Do you know how to respond to parents inquiring about information in a child’s records?
  • When is it appropriate to breach a patients confidence in the public interest?
  • With which other healthcare professionals is it appropriate to share patient information, and how much, and are there exceptions?
  • What do doctors need to be aware of when patients access some or all of their health records remotely
  • In what circumstances can family members request access to their deceased relatives records?
  • What do doctors need to do on becoming aware of a data breach in their organisation?

Through the use of anonymised case examples and group discussion, delegates will gain a better understanding of how to mitigate the regulatory and legal risks associated with organisational processes, the sharing and disclosing of patient information and new ways of working as remote consulting.

This course is led by MDDUS risk advisers, Alan Frame and Kay Louise Grant.

Application has been made to the Federation of the Royal Colleges of the UK for 2 CPD credits.
