Professionalism - fulfilling your duties as a dentist

Dentists can learn more about key areas of professionalism such as accepting gifts, personal relationships, managing your online presence and much more

This training course, which has been designed for any dentist to attend, focuses on key areas of professionalism which dentists encounter daily, both at work and in their private lives. The aim is for delegates to develop a greater understanding of their medico-legal responsibilities and the common areas in which dentists can find themselves in difficulty throughout their career.

The day will be divided into five topic areas: personal and professional boundaries, ending professional relationships, personal conduct, raising concerns about self and others and regulatory and legal duties of candour.

Within these topic areas a variety of issues will be explored including:

  • personal relationships
  • acceptance of gifts
  • ending your relationship with a patient
  • refusal to treat
  • managing your online presence – personally and professionally
  • maintaining equality and fairness in colleague interactions
  • promoting a culture of openness
  • responding to concerns

The sessions will vary and include presentations, group discussion and case studies.

Application has been made to NES for CPD accreditation.

The training day is open to both MDDUS members and non-members.
