MDDUS conduct ongoing analysis on member claims, complaints and GMC cases to understand the most common and serious risks to which GPs - and therefore patients - are exposed.
Over three quarters of negligence claims against GPs arise from failed or delayed diagnosis/access to treatment, or failures arising from repeat prescribing systems.
Over an interactive day delegates will learn about why claims and other medico-legal actions arise against GPs and which features of professional practice can assist in providing a robust defence if appropriate. Anonymised case studies and small group discussion will be used to explore medico-legal risks and how to mitigate those which are present in your own practice.
Time will also be devoted to understanding emerging areas of risk including: the impact of working in evolving multidisciplinary teams; delegation to non-clinical staff; and managing online records.
The training day is open to both MDDUS members and non-members and is aimed at GPs.
