DCPs urged by GDC to renew now

  • Date: 11 June 2019

DENTAL care professionals (DCPs) in the UK have until 31 July 2019 to complete their annual renewal in order to remain on the GDC register.

The GDC is reminding DCPs that they must pay the annual retention fee (ARF) and also declare they have, or will have, appropriate indemnity in place.

This is also the first year that annual enhanced CPD statements are part of the annual renewal process. All DCPs are new required to make an annual statement confirming how many hours of CPD have been completed in the previous 12 months (even where that figure is 'zero') and declare that the CPD completed is relevant to their field of practice.

The GDC has also changed the rules governing how 'grace period' applications are made. Grace is available for those who, due to exceptional circumstances, need further time to complete the required number of hours for their five-year CPD cycle. Applications must be made no later than 31 July.

GDC executive director, Registration and Corporate Resources, Gurvinder Soomal, said: "Whilst the deadline is seven weeks away, with these new requirements in mind, I really would urge people not to leave it until the last minute and to get in touch with us as soon as possible if they have any questions."
