Trainees transfer window opens

  • Date: 24 February 2014

JUNIOR doctors whose personal circumstances have changed can now apply to move their specialty training post to a different area.

The window for inter-deanery transfers (IDTs) opened on February 19 and runs until March 19 at 4pm.

IDTs allow specialty trainees to move to another deanery if they have experienced unforeseen, significant changes to their personal circumstances. This can include caring or parental responsibilities, a personal disability or circumstances related to a committed relationship such as marriage or divorce.

Applicants must meet certain criteria. This includes having been in their current training programme in their current region for at least 12 months and being at least 12 months from their CCT date at the time of transfer.

Find out more or apply for an IDT on the Shared Services website.

The IDTs do not apply to foundation trainees whose transfers are arranged under a separate system (inter-foundation school transfers, or IFSTs). Such transfers normally take place either before the start of foundation training (F1) or at the start of the F2 year.

Applications for an IFST can be submitted at any time but normally before the end of May. Find out more on the UKFPO website
