Medical careers site success

  • Date: 28 June 2012

A FREE information site aimed at foundation year doctors is receiving 26,000 visitors per month, new figures show.

The NHS medical careers site, www.medicalcareers.nhs.uk, was launched in July 2009 and offers information to help FYs plan their career paths. It features a four-stage career planning model and has more than 1,500 pages of information, self-evaluation tools, videos and other resources.

It contains overviews of more than 60 specialties with links to workforce statistics and other information to guide decision-making.

An evaluation in 2010 found the site had influenced the specialty decision of 52 per cent of F1 and 64 per cent of F2 site users.
