MDDUS welcomes discount rate announcement

PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release: Thursday, 7 September 2017

UK-wide medical defence organisation MDDUS welcomes today’s announcement from the Lord Chancellor setting out proposals to change the way in which the personal injury discount rate is calculated.

Commenting on David Lidington’s proposed legislation to calculate the discount rate applied to personal injury claims within the range of 0% to 1%, MDDUS chief executive Chris Kenny said:

“We have been in the forefront of the debate to put some rationality into the system and welcome today’s long-awaited announcement from the Lord Chancellor.

“However, this announcement merely underlines how short-sighted it was to reset the rate without resolving the wider issues.

“We look forward to studying the details of the proposals and will continue to explore the implications to ensure a better, fairer and more affordable deal for our members.”
