1. Do I need MDDUS support while I'm studying?

In your studies you may face a number of unfamiliar situations where you may value some independent and professional advice. Our advisers, who have years of clinical and medico-legal and dento-legal experience, are available to speak directly to student members.

Student members can also take advantage of the range of publisher discounts that we have negotiated on your behalf.

2. If I join MDDUS as a student, do I have to stay with you once I'm actually practicing?

Student membership of the MDDUS does not require you to remain with us for any longer than you want. You can cancel your membership at any time and are under no obligation to join us as a new graduate member, but we hope that you will!

3. Why should I choose MDDUS and not one of the other Medical Defence Organisations (MDO)?

Not only does the MDDUS pride itself on offering competitive membership rates and a personalised service, we also provide our members with peace of mind.

Unlike some of our competitors, who offer insurance-based products, our members benefit from the advantages of occurrence-based cover. This means that if you take a career break, go overseas or leave the profession you will have access to assistance from the MDDUS for any event that occurred during your time in membership.

Insurance products operate in a quite different manner. They only guarantee protection if you are insured, both when the incident occurred and when the claim is made. The crucial importance of this lies in the fact that acts of medical and dental malpractice do not occur and then materialise into a claim within a short period of time. There can be several months or even years between the events that give rise to a claim and the claim being made.
