Clinial Risk in Medical Practice

This full day workshop will explore the common medico-legal pitfalls and clinical risks within the Primary Care setting.  Utilising our experience and lessons learned from MDDUS claims and complaints files, topics to be examined include, prescribing, result management, confidentiality and consent.

Medical Record Management

Target Audience: Doctors, GDPs, Nurses and Healthcare Assistants

Medical records wherever possible, should be made contemporaneously and accurately.  Memory alone will rarely be sufficient in the event of a subsequent claim, Fatal Accident Inquiry/Coroner's Inquest or other court action.  However, a good medical record can often stop a claim in its tracks.

This half day interactive workshop will explore the common risk and pitfalls associated with managing patients medical records in the primary care setting.  Specific topics will include:

  • Electronic records - benefits and challenges
  • Allergies, warnings and contra-indications
  • Telephone consultations and house visits
  • Repeat prescribing systems
  • Chaperone records
  • Recording the negative and use of abbreviations
  • The Data Protection Act and record management

 

Patient Safety in General Medical Practice - Trigger Tool

Venue: MDDUS Glasgow Office

Target Audience: General Medical Practitioners, Medical Practice Managers, Practice Nurses

Why wait until something goes wrong and have to set up a Significant Event Analysis.

The trigger tool method allows clinicians to screen patient records in a rapid, structured and focused manner for undetected harm.  It is useful for measuring, learning from and improving patient safety and care quality.
