GP practices should be sure to check supplier information before administering vaccinations for specific patients. The Union recently received a call where an infant had been administered a vaccine licensed for use only in children over age 4. There are several different brands of flu vaccine and only some are licensed for use in children.
Many surgeries only get one type of vaccine and, if they have children to immunise, may not check that the brand is suitable. It is important to double check the brand and supplier information.
MDDUS urges members to ensure that practice staff double-check that vaccinations are licensed for use in specific patients being treated.
