A NEW publication from the General Medical Council sets out the standards expected in postgraduate training and education.
The Trainee Doctor is aimed at postgraduate deaneries, employers, trainers, trainees and others involved in medical education and training. It brings together the benchmarks for foundation and specialty training in Generic Standards for Specialty including GP Training (revised April 2010), Standards for Deaneries (revised April 2010), and The New Doctor (published 2009).
The booklet also sets out the evidence the GMC will use to check that these standards are being met and that trainees are receiving proper training and supervision, such as data collected by postgraduate deaneries and surveys of trainers and trainees. The Trainee Doctor will be reviewed once details of the government’s health white paper Liberating the NHS: Developing the Healthcare Workforce are confirmed.
