TALKS are underway aimed at streamlining the process of transfers of trainees between deaneries.
The BMA’s Junior Doctors Committee is in discussions with the Department of Health in the hope of establishing a national system that will make it clearer where and in what specialties deaneries are accepting transfers.
Specialty trainees who wish to take up a post at a different deanery – often due to unforeseen changes in personal circumstances – currently have to go through a series of panel hearings before making the move.
Deputy JDC chairman Ben Molyneux told BMJ Careers: “What we want to do is make the process more streamlined, so that there’s not panel after panel, and make sure that the decision-making is transparent and fair, so we can reduce the burden on trainees and deaneries.”
