NEW guidance has been published advising junior doctors how to make a banding appeal.
The implementation of the European Working Time Directive last August forced NHS trusts to revise junior doctors’ rotas and reduce working hours. This has had a massive impact on junior doctors’ day-to-day working lives in both positive and negative ways.
In some cases, enforcement of the EWTD has led to unworkable rotas with inappropriate banding. A new guide has been published on the BMJ Careers website explaining how trainees can go about making an appeal.
The document aims to raise awareness amongst trainees of what they are entitled to and explains how to make sure you are not missing out on pay. Authors Andrew Titchener and Ronnie Davies advise junior doctors to sit down with a copy of their rota early on in their new post and match the stated banding to the hours and pattern of work.
