MHRA looks to expand electronic Yellow Cards

03 November 2010

Over a thousand UK general practices now have the facility to report suspected adverse drug reaction (ADR) reports to the Yellow Card Scheme directly using practice software.

The MHRA has announced that SystmOne GP software is the first IT provider to develop a Yellow Card reporting feature that interacts directly with the agency’s database. GPs using SystmOne can now quickly populate and securely send an electronic Yellow Card to the MHRA directly from their practice software.

The MHRA is now working to develop similar features within other software systems and discussions are continuing with a number of other GP and pharmacy system providers.

MHRA Director of Vigilance and Risk Management of Medicines, Dr June Raine, said: “Integration of Yellow Card reporting into this system will save GPs time when reporting and allows information to be quickly shared with the MHRA for effective drug safety monitoring.”
