THE General Medical Council has ruled out any immediate moves to start registering student doctors or to introduce a national exam.
GMC chairman Peter Rubin told the Student BMA News the organisation was not looking at introducing either policy in the immediate future, but would keep them under review.
The BMA restated its opposition to both policies following the merger of the GMC and Postgraduate Education and Training Board last month. A consultation is underway on the future regulation of medical education and training which includes more formal fitness to practice systems for student doctors.
The GMC is assessing which recommendations should be implemented.
