Dentists’ CPD deadline looms

15 March 2010

DENTISTS have until the end of March to fill in their continuing professional development returns.

The General Dental Council is reminding more than 1300 practitioners who are at the end of their five-year CPD cycle to complete and return their declaration by March 31.

CPD is designed to make sure dental professionals keep their skills up-to-date throughout their careers. Dentists are required to undertake 250 hours of CPD with 75 hours being verifiable over a five year period.

Those whose five-year cycles ended on December 31, 2009 must fill out a declaration of the hours they have completed in that time. Dentists who miss the deadline will be asked for proof of CPD time, such as certificates, to prove they have completed the required hours. The GDC is sending out information letters to dentists explaining the rules.

An easy way to keep track of CPD hours is on the eGDC website at www.egdc-uk.org
