“No compulsory redundancies” in NHS, Sturgeon says

25 June 2010

THERE will be no compulsory job cuts in the NHS in Scotland, the health secretary has confirmed.

Nicola Sturgeon reassured healthcare staff as she launched the workforce projections for 2010 to 2011. She made it clear she expected health boards to maximise non-workforce efficiencies worth £100million.

She set out three guarantees for NHS staff and patients:

  • The quality of patient care is paramount
  • There will be no compulsory redundancies
  • There will be more staff in NHS at end of this parliamentary term than at the start.
