David leads the Scottish legal team at MDDUS and is based in our Glasgow office. He graduated from Edinburgh University in 1988, and pursued a career as a litigation lawyer in private practice, latterly as a partner with UK law firm, Shepherd & Wedderburn. As a solicitor qualified in Scots Law, David has considerable experience in defending medical and dental negligence actions in the Court of Session and before the sheriff courts of Scotland. He has particular experience of representing practitioners at fatal accident inquiries, and before the professional panels of the GMC and GDC.

Lindsey graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1992 and qualified as a solicitor in Scots Law in 1994. She then pursued a career with UK Law firm Shepherd & Wedderburn specialising in personal injury and family law. Lindsey developed an interest in medical law and over the course of the last ten years has specialised in this area. She has considerable experience with defending high value and complex negligence claims in the Court of Session. She also advises and represents members before the GMC and GDC and undertakes fatal accident inquiries. Lindsey is also a notary public. She joined MDDUS in April 2009.

Denise qualified as a solicitor in 2005. She graduated with a law degree from the University of Glasgow in 2002 and trained at Shepherd and Wedderburn. Since qualifying, she has specialised in medico-legal work and has experience in defending high value, complex clinical negligence actions in the Court of Session, representing doctors and dentists in disciplinary proceedings before NHS tribunals and the General Medical and General Dental Councils, and representing doctors in fatal accident inquiries. Denise is also a Notary Public. Denise joined the MDDUS in May 2008.

Mary was a senior NHS manager for 20 years before completing a law degree in 1999. She trained with Shepherd and Wedderburn and became an Associate of the firm in 2004. Since qualification she has practised almost exclusively in medical law and now specialises in professional regulatory work. She advises and represents doctors facing investigation and hearings before the General Medical and Dental Councils. She also has extensive experience of representing health professionals in Fatal Accident Inquiries. The MDDUS were Mary’s principal client in private practice and she joined the Union’s Scottish In-House team in 2008.
Case Handler, Law and Claims (Scotland)
Sharon has a lengthy experience of defending personal injury and public liability claims, having worked as a claims handler for major insurance companies since 1990. She also gained experience in pursuing claims whilst working for Harper Macleod Solicitors in their in-house team within RBS Insurance. She is now studying towards her formal paralegal qualification in civil court practice. Sharon joined MDDUS in December 2006.
