The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) has published a new guideline on the diagnosis and management of chronic kidney disease.
A new guideline was judged necessary as previous renal clinical guidelines have focused on patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Given the increased recognition of CKD at earlier stages, the risks of cardiovascular disease and the potential for the disease to progress towards ESRD, guidelines for early identification and management of patients are now a priority.
