MDDUS are delighted to announce that our members can now access an unrivalled range of Employment Law and Health and Safety advice and support, designed specifically for the dental and medical sectors, via our partnership with Law At Work (LAW).

MDDUS Essentials

Members can register for the MDDUS Essentials Employment Law service free of charge to receive:

  • A monthly electronic update called LAWmail which will keep you abreast of changing employment law and health and safety legislation.
  • One full telephone consultation, on any employment law or health and safety matter.
  • Entitlement to send a delegate to LAWs regional update seminars designed to provide a user-friendly guide to the constantly changing legal risks.

MDDUS Plus

This service is designed to offer a higher level of support and peace of mind to practices who require advice more than once or need assistance to put together legally compliant contracts of employment or policies and procedures which take into consideration recent changes in legislation.

As well as the features of the MDDUS Essentials service, MDDUS Plus members can benefit from two additional aspects of support::

  • Unlimited access to the LAW 24-hour Employment Law advisory service.
  • A 'build your own' set of employment documentation including template contracts of employment and a standard set of policies and procedures written for the medical and dental sectors.

MDDUS Consultancy

This package is designed for larger practices who require a higher level of support. It provides:

  • An initial onsite audit consultation with partners and practice managers with human resources responsibilities. At this meeting LAW will obtain a complete overview of how your practice operates, your existing procedures, policies and contractual arrangements, and will take away existing relevant documentation for full review.
  • A full written report on any changes required to comply with the law
  • Recommendations on other changes that will offer you greater flexibility and protection in your staffing arrangements in the future.
  • As required, LAW will provide recommended wording for changed or new procedural and contractual documentation
  • LAW will also be on hand to update or amend any policies or procedures for the duration of the relationship and will meet with the practice every 12 months to discuss any required or recommended changes.
  • Entitlement to a number of delegate places at our LAW training courses every year which are listed below in the Options section under Training.

Additional Options

Training

LAW run a series of Employment Law, HR-related and Health and Safety training courses between September and May each year. These courses include:

  • Essential Employment Law
  • Advanced Employment Law
  • Dealing with Discipline
  • Absence Management
  • Changing Terms and Conditions of Employment
  • Dealing with Problem Performers

Practices who subscribe to the MDDUS Essentials or Plus service can choose to send delegates to these courses held in Edinburgh and Glasgow for an additional fee.

Alternatively, members may prefer to attend MDDUS-hosted LAW events which are exclusively for doctors, dentists, practice managers, and their teams.

We are also keen to offer LAW events as part of local Community Health Partnership, Protected Learning Time sessions.

About Law At Work (LAW)

LAW offers affordable Employment Law, HR and Health and Safety services which combine the strengths of legal practice with consultancy delivery. They can assist MDDUS members to identify, manage and eliminate risks to their practice in increasingly complex areas of legal regulation.

All of their services are charged at a fixed cost, agreed in advance, enabling members to budget accurately. This also eliminates the cost disincentive to make best use of their support.

LAW can also provide protection against employment trinbunal related costs such as legal fees and awards and will provide further information on this upon request.

LAW have close links with the leading UK law firm, Maclay, Murray & Spens, who are based in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Brussels.
